Alicante’s Best Excursions & Daytrips by Car

On the Spanish Costa Blanca, the Province of Alicante (of which the city of Alicante is the capital) is part of the Valencian Community.  Alicante is the second largest Valencian city (after Valencia) and has many of the usual touristy type things on offer including great local cuisine, beaches, places of historical, bull fights, paella and sangria.

However if you’re looking for things to do that you can only experience in Alicante, something unique to the region here are our top three excursions in Alicante.

Of course all these things are best done at your own schedule in a hire car for the day, there are plenty of Car Hire companies available at Alicante Airport, and I can thoroughly recommend Car Hire Alicante if you are looking for suggestions.

Alicante Santa Faz Pilgrimage – book your trip to coincide with the impressive Santa Faz Pilgrimage it’s the second largest of its kind in Spain and is a hugely impressive spectacle. 200,000 people walk the 8km from the city centre to the Monastery of Santa Faz.

Caves of Canalobre – hire a car and head up to the Caves of Canalobre, they are the largest and deepest caves in Spain.  The Caves of Canalobre lie 27km outside of Alicante centre and are well worth a day trip, the view across Alicante on entering the caves is spectacular and once inside the caves you’re transported into a whole other world – wonder at the spectacular stalagmites and stalactites inside the caves are still living and growing!

Island of Tabarca – sail over to this magical island that lies just under 12km south-east of Alicante.  It’s perfect for a weekend away from it all, marvel in its natural beauty and relax and make sure to sample to delicious fresh seafood dishes while you’re taking it all in.
