So I Take My Kid To See A Chiropractor…

So my son has been dealing with colic for weeks and weeks. My friend at work suggested that I go to see his chiropractor. I was thinking, “Really? Seriously?” I couldn’t imagine having someone jump up and down on my nine month old’s spine.

I mean, I’ve been seeing a chiropractor for years. I’m not interested in “wellness” or making sure that I have “good nerve flow.” I just know that I feel better. I used to have back pain a long time ago, but a good chiropractor helped me with that already.

After getting adjusted for a few weeks, I had no more pain. Worked for me, but I remember initially feeling like the guy was getting a running start at my spine. Then I heard enough pops and cracks to think that someone was making popcorn nearby.

So why would I want someone doing that to my child? Well, it worked. Turns out they don’t do all the twisting and popping on kids that small. It was more like the chiropractor used his pinkie finger to apply some pressure at the upper part of my sons neck.

I didn’t hear anything and my son slept through the whole thing. Better yet, no more colic. My wife is excited and we’re all getting so much more rest. Of course now I have to buy my friend lunch since he suggested it and I bet him it wouldn’t work.

Turns out he was right, but it will likely be the only time this year that he gets something right. He “suggests” lots of things for me to do, and hardly anything goes the way he thinks it will. It just turns out that this time he was right.

Turn Your Appointment Book Into A Powerful Online Selling Tool

You have a website that’s available 24/7. That’s like having an employee working, night and day, for 168 hours every week. It’s just waiting for someone to type your URL into their browser or one of your keywords into their search engine of choice. Once they’ve found you, they want to do one thing; take action. Whether that means booking an appointment for a manicure or scheduling time with an accountant they want to do something, and they want to do it now. This is when they reach for the phone or fire off an e-mail.

Sadly, unlike your website, most employees don’t work 168 hours a week, so there might not be anyone to pick up the phone or reply to that e-mail. Maybe you’re out for lunch, maybe its Friday, maybe you’re on vacation, but every minute that customer goes without a response is a minute they might be looking for your competitors.

24/7? More Like 8/5.

The truth is that your availability will never match that of your website. In fact, if you work a standard 40 hours, you will only be able to respond immediately about 25% of the time. Basically, you’re website works 24/7 while you’re working 8/5.

Sure, people might not expect an instant response at 3AM, and a lot of customers will still call during normal business hours, but customers have been getting more accustomed to the around-the-clock availability of e-commerce, online banking and other services that are available online. If you’re still using an appointment book and an answering machine, you’re missing a golden opportunity to turn that appointment booking into a dynamic selling tool.

Think about this, if your business uses an appointment book, whether you’re a dentist, hairdresser or an accountant, almost everyone you deal with is a potential customer. Whether they’re existing customers who you can turn into repeat customers, or people wandering in off the street, they probably have an interest in your service. Why else would they be walking in your door or calling you up?

The same is true for your website, especially since it’s always open for business. If they’ve landed on your page they’re probably searching for something you offer. The trick is making it easier to access that something than the competition does. Sure, they could send an e-mail or check your hours but what if they’re searching during that 75% of the week your website is working and you’re not?

The Solution? Online Appointment Software.

Online Appointment Software turns your appointment book into a dynamic online selling tool. It’s simple to set up and customers will be able book with you in seconds, directly from your website or Facebook. At any time, day or night, they will always get a time and date that works best for them. Customers receive confirmation of the appointment and automated appointment reminders, your schedule is updated automatically online and you receive alerts of updates by email.

Online appointment scheduling software is about creating happy, loyal customers, offering fantastic service and providing the perfect customer experience. It’s about being unique and truly differentiating yourself from your competitors. It’s about stealing the competitive edge and enjoying the financial rewards that come with it. It’s about doing all that without working 168 hours a week.

The Cell Phone Necessity

Let us take a moment and explore the possibilities. Sure almost everyone has a cell phone or we could at least say that most likely every household owns a cell phone. The real question is, is it a necessity? Probably not. Sure we have our doctors and our higher up people I will call them for all intents and purposes. We could also name them the people on call. Even the people on call how necessary is having a cell phone for them? There was obviously a time when they did not exist. I think one of the biggest problems I have is the 13 year old kid who has to have one and even take it to school. It is starting to get a bit ridiculous at that point is it not? What is this kid going to do with it? Okay I get it. The kids will use the cell phone to text their friends sitting across the room or down the hall. Let us go back to having to have one though. What happened to land lines? That is not even important at this point. You cannot even wait long enough until you see them at lunch. What is the big urge or what is so important that you have to send a text every five minutes. The really ridiculous part to me is all of the extras. Let me just give in for a second. Let us say it is perfectly okay to have a cell. What is with all of the extras you cannot wait until later to surf the web. Why do we possibly need all of everything else that does not pertain to calling? Simple answer we do not.

Work Experience at Advertising Agencies

During the first four years of my life within the advertising industry, I have been involved with many organizations. These have ranged from working at an advertising agency in west sussex in the uk to working for a reputable print media publisher in London.

I have to say that my time with agencies was fantastic and I am always amazed by their genuine team spirit when I visit them today. Of course, not all agencies are like this but the point is that you should certainly consider this environment if you want to try and break into the advertising industry.

My time with a small advertising agency in cambridgeshire led to a number of new friendships. Some of these people I take for lunch and bounce ideas off. Others I sell to now when I wear several different hats.

My best experience though has to be when I joined a larger advertising agency in London. This was just before I moved into the magazine publishing side of the business and this agency taught me a huge amount about negotiating, communicating and building long-term relationships. It seems they practiced what they preached too, as they are still there 20 years later and doing better than ever.

So, if you decide to work in the advertising business and you want some work experience in this area, you could do a lot worse than working at an agency for a while. A good agency will give you loads of experience and if you move into media sales, you’ll have the added benefit of seeing it all from the agency’s perspective.

There are loads of resources out there to help you and some of the best agencies will always welcome people on work experience with open arms. People always love talking about their business and if you offer your service for almost free, they’d be crazy to turn you down.
