Connective tissue manipulation helping you feel better

a lot of the health issues individuals are suffering from, in this hectic world can be relieved or resolved with the use of a couple of fantastic Physiotherapy techniques, Connective tissue reflex manipulation and Manual lymph drainage. I have described the two techniques in the following paragraphs and then followed with a description of one of the problems it can remedy Sciatica. Other problems that can be sorted out by this technique are referred pain, cold hands and feet, slipped discs, reynauds, groin strain and supra-spinatus tendinitus.

How can some of these problems be alleviated?

Connective Tissue Manipulation

Carried out by the Physiotherapist using the soft surface of the finger tips to move one layer of skin on the layer underneath. This movement creates a short, sharp, stretch reflex, causing an impulse, which spreads out through the connective tissue. The patient’s brain interpretes this impulse as if it was a ‘cut’ or a ‘scratch’. The tenser the connective tissue the larger the stretch reflex and therefore the more intense the ‘cut’ feels to the patient. The reaction is a small impulse which travels through the fluid in the connective tissue and releases tension. The reduction in tension surrounding the blood vessel walls allows additional blood to move into the injured region and so lessens the swelling. Softening the connective tissue helps allow more motion to happen without triggering off irritation and therefore pain. Dealing with this often begins further from the injured part gradually working closer to the starting place of the injury. The improvements of Connective Tissue Manipulation are cumulative. Once the stress has been lowered by manipulation the reduction is maintained. Further lessening in connective tissue tension occurs with each additional treatment. The amount to which the reduction in connective tissue tension is held at is dependant upon the amount of tension placed on the system by the individuals lifestyle. Connective Tissue Manipulation is a technique studied at postgraduate level in the United Kingdom and because of this it hasn’t travelled very rapidly around the country. At the last count, there were only two dozen Physiotherapists in the United Kingdom actively practising Connective Tissue Manipulation.
